Students were able to learn from PR pros around the Greater Kansas City area about what it takes to succeed in the industry. A day full of break-out sessions and keynote speakers, students from the Midwest all gathered for one main purpose: to make themselves marketable in the dwindling economy. K-State PRSSA member Vestoria Simmons even won an autographed copy of keynote speaker Dan Schawbel’s book Me 2.0!

After speaker panels and lunch, students were able to take part in a professional resume review as well as visit a mini-job fair! It was a great day of fun and PR… awesome to visit with so many professionals with varied experiences!

Friday, October 23 is a busy day for K-State PRSSA! The Kansas City PRSSA
Day will begin at 9 a.m. at the Kansas City Public Library. If you are
intending to attend, but have not yet registered, please remember to do so

This is an EXCELLENT opportunity to network with PR professionals in the
Kansas City area and learn more about landing a job/internship in today’s
tough job market. Also, they pass out an internship directory with all of
the available internships in the KC area. This is a very useful tool for
internship and job seekers alike. Don’t miss this opportunity!

If you plan on attending, please SIGN UP on the sheet hanging on the board
outside Kedzie 105. Attendees will carpool to the event and leave the
Wal-Mart parking lot at 6:30 a.m. Friday. YOU MUST SIGN UP if you plan on
representing K-State.

For those of you unable to attend the PRSSA Day, the SUV from Cotton Inc.
and Jack Morton Worldwide will be on campus advertising the cotton campaign!
They will be in Bosco plaza from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. This means that we NEED PRSSA
volunteers to help out at the SUV and promote the drive. Much like the booth
positions, you will answer questions and pass out t-shirts to people who donate.

There is also a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside Kedzie 105 to
help out with this initiative. Sign your name with times available in either
the morning/afternoon time slots by 12 p.m. Thursday!

This is a HUGE event for the campaign that is sure to get media coverage
throughout the day. Please do your part and help to ensure that the campaign
is a continued success.

Thank you for all of your support and assistance throughout the campaign.
You all have been a great bunch of PR people thus far, and I’m excited to
see where the fall semester leads us!

Join PRSSA on Tuesday October 13, 2009 to hear Joann Long from the Red Cross who will speak about non-profit public relations. The meeting will be held in the student union to the left of the food court. There will be free pizza and pop. Remember! You don’t have to be a public relations major to attend, all majors are welcome!

K-State PRSSA,

Our K-State chapter has been selected to help Jack Morton WW Marketing Agency during their Denim Drive. The campaign is called, Cotton. From Blue to Green.

Most people don’t know that their favorite jeans are made from cotton, which is a natural, renewable and recyclable fiber. Once collected, your denim will be converted into UltraTouch natural cotton fiber insulation, and donated to help rebuild communities in need. In 2006, the Cotton. From Blue to Green denim drive collected 14,566 pieces of denim. In April 2007 this insulation was used by Habitat for Humanity, Baton Rouge, to help rebuild 12 homes for families displaced by Hurricane Katrina. In 2007, and 2008 over 40,000 pieces of denim were collected across numerous Universities. This year, our goal is to collect more than 500 pieces of denim to create insulation to be used to rebuild homes on the Gulf Cost region.

On Monday, September 21 at 6pm the Jack Morton crew will conduct a formal training session on our campus. I need a head count, so email or call me to let me know if you will be there. The location is TBA, but food and drinks will be served.

If you are willing to help this noble initiative, work with a famous marketing agency from NY, and claim so on your resume, please let me know In the meantime, start collecting old denim now. Speak to your classes, other campus groups, sororities and fraternities, roommates, etc.
